The cult/ure of the body and sport

This cult and culture is not entirely new in society. Already in the times of ancient Greece, athletes were extolled and celebrated. However, with the boom of mass media, with the implementation of the cult of youth and perfection, the dictates of the body and sports have become literally omnipresent. Thanks to the media, people get a peculiar idea about the so-called ideal look and perfect beauty - about the paths to success, health, happiness and a fully-fledged, right life. The result can be an inclination towards narcissistic and exhibitionistic patterns of behaviour, further towards addictive behaviour (sport, plastic surgery, slimming procedures, healthy diet), but also the development of dysmorphophobia (disturbance in the perception of one's body) and disordered food intake.

A person with dysmorphophobia suffers from the feeling that he has noticeable imperfections on his body and he tries to mask them in every possible way.
