Media addiction


It is one of the types of non-substance addiction. A person who suffers from it can be addicted to so-called virtual drugs – the Internet, computer games, series and other Internet services, and even the electronic devices themselves. This category also includes the obsession also an obsession with taking pictures of oneself,  All of the above arises and deepens because the given activities satisfy part of human needs and it is easily accessible relaxation or entertainment. Even this addiction grows stronger over time; characterized by loss of control over time, disruption of relationships with loved ones, and decreased performance at work or school.

One of the types of non-substance addiction is referred to as netolism, namely addiction to so-called virtual drugs – e.g. computer games, various internet services and even electronic devices themselves. The concept of nomophobia is closely related to netolism, as it represents a direct dependence on the mobile phone (from the English No Mobile Phone Phobia). Both are characterized by people losing control over time, disrupting relationships with loved ones, or decreasing performance at work. A nomophobia can also suffer from nervousness in case he forgets his mobile phone at home, and also he constantly checks incoming messages or battery status on his device.

The folder in the Czech original contains an introduction of basic concepts and perhaps even slang or sociolect related to the given phenomenon, as well as working and study materials (articles, interviews, presentations,...) and other useful information (films and series, internet portals, books, professional workplaces and organizations, televisual and radio documentaries,...).
